Promethean Fire: Graphite, Gouache and Illustration board 20”X30” Prometheus was a Greek Titan that created man out of clay. He wanted to give his beloved creations more than life, but knowledge, insight, will…a piece of the divine. He was at odds with Zeus about this and resorted to trickery to obtain the fire from heaven which he smuggled out in a fennel stalk. Zeus, furious with his insubordination and rebellion sought to punish Prometheus by creating Pandora (the first woman) as a means to torment man. Prometheus was arrested and chained to Mount Kaukasos where an eagle would eat his liver (some say heart) that would regenerate the next day to be mercilessly pecked out yet again.
